【Concept】

この作品は、ポール・ダイク氏の人生という美しい芸術作品を映し出す「鏡」であり、新しい未来へと続く「扉」です。

円形のキャンバスの中に描かれたのは、彼を支えてきた故郷の記憶、家族との絆、そして日々の小さな選択が積み重なって生まれる豊かな「人生の庭」。一日の始まりと終わりにこの絵と対話することで、これまでの道のりにある愛を思い出し、「今、ここにいる自分」を心から肯定できる安らぎを届けます。

過去を誇り、今を喜び、そして未来に希望を抱く。その全ての感情が、柔らかな光と花の色彩に溶け込んでいます。

【Concept】

A Mirror and a Portal: For the Present and the Future Ahead

This artwork serves as a “Mirror” reflecting the beautiful work of art that is Paul Dyck’s life, and a “Portal” leading toward a new future.

Within this circular canvas lies the “Garden of Life”—vibrant with memories of his roots, the bonds of family, and the richness born from mindful daily choices. Designed to be gazed upon at the start and end of each day, this piece offers a sense of peace, reminding him of the love and care that have supported his journey and affirming that “he is exactly where he belongs.”

Pride in the past, joy in the present, and optimism for the future. All these emotions are woven into the soft light and the delicate colors of the garden.

【古代鏡と樹木のシルエット】

背景には、日本の神道における「古代鏡」の文様を取り入れています。神道において円鏡は、太陽を象徴する神・天照大神の御神体として大切に祀られてきました。そこには「神は遠い外の世界にいるのではなく、あなた自身の内に存在する」という深い教えが込められています。また、重なり合う樹木のシルエットは、「枝葉はすべて幹と根で繋がっている、あらゆる存在の源は一つである」という、生命の連なりを表現しています。

【The Sacred Mirror and the Silhouette of Tree】

The background incorporates the mirror patterns of Japanese Shinto. In Shinto tradition, the circular mirror is enshrined as a sacred object representing Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess. It carries the profound meaning that “divinity does not reside outside, but exists within you.” The layered silhouettes of tree symbolize the interconnectedness of life: “Just as branches and leaves are connected by the trunk and roots, the source of all existence is one.”

描かれた花々は、ポール氏のルーツと、人生において大切な絆を象徴しています。

ホワイトトリリウム： オンタリオとケベックの地に咲く花。人生の調和、人との調和、そして自然との調和を象徴します。
ワイルドローズ： 故郷アルバータ州の象徴。ポールさんを含む5人の兄弟の絆を表しています。
ヒース（ヘザー）とイトシャジン（ハレベル）： お母様のルーツであるノルウェーとスウェーデンを象徴する花々。
ヒナギク（デイジー）とヤグルマギク（コーンフラワー）： お父様のルーツであるオランダとドイツを象徴する花々。
カエデの木： ポールさんのアイデンティティである、カナダの象徴。

【The Language of Flowers】

Each flower symbolizes Paul’s roots and the significant connections in his life.

White Trillium: A flower native to the border of Ontario and Quebec. It symbolizes harmony in life—between people, and with nature.
Wild Rose: The floral emblem of Alberta. These five roses represent the bond between Paul and his four siblings.
Heath (Heather) & Harebell: The national flowers of Norway and Sweden, representing his maternal roots.
Daisy & Blue Cornflower: The national flowers of the Netherlands and Germany, representing his paternal roots.
Maple Tree: The national symbol of Canada, representing Paul’s own identity and home.

【二頭の蝶：響き合う魂】

人は独りでは生きていくことはできません。互いの違いを認め、想い合うことで、人生はより豊かな幸せに満たされます。二頭のほどよい距離感は、日本の茶道における「亭主と客人の距離（間）」に着想を得ています。近すぎず、遠すぎず、互いを尊重する美しい調和の形です。

オオミズアオ： 「今、この瞬間を存分に生きる」ことの象徴。ポール氏が愛するシンガーソングライター青葉市子のアルバム『qp』のイメージを重ねています。
オオカバマダラ： カナダに生息する、長い旅をする蝶。

【Two Butterflies: Resonating Souls】

No one can live entirely alone. By embracing our differences and caring for one another, our lives become infinitely richer. The delicate distance between the two butterflies is inspired by the concept of Ma (space) in the Japanese Tea Ceremony—the ideal distance between host and guest. It represents a beautiful harmony that honors mutual respect.

Monarch Butterfly: The “traveling butterfly” native to Canada.

【平和への青い道（The Path of Peace）】

おりづるタワーの壁画に描いた「平和な未来への青い道」が、海を渡り、この絵の中へと続いています。

広島からカナダへ、祈りは途切れることなく繋がっています。

【The Path of Peace】

The “blue path toward a peaceful future,” which I first painted on the mural at Orizuru Tower, crosses the ocean and continues within this artwork. The prayer from Hiroshima remains unbroken, reaching all the way to Ottawa.

【生まれた日の夜空に輝いた星座】

画面に散りばめた銀箔の欠片（かけら）は、ポールさんがこの世に生を受けた夜、空に描かれていた星々の配置を映したものです。

中心でひときわ輝くのは、ベガ・アルタイル・デネブが結ぶ「夏の大三角形」。古くから旅人の道標となったこの三角形は、人生の「導き」と「調和」のシンボルです。

その中で、天高く舞い上がる白鳥座の姿は、星の導きを得て自らの想いを現実へと変えていくポールさんの歩みを、心から応援し、祝福しているかのようです。

【The Constellations That Shone on the Night You Were Born】

The fragments of silver leaf scattered across the canvas capture the exact alignment of the stars as they appeared on the night you were born.

Shining brilliantly at the center is the “Summer Triangle,” formed by the stars Vega, Altair, and Deneb. Historically used by travelers as a compass, this triangle serves as a sacred symbol of “Guidance” and “Harmony” in life.

Within this celestial landscape, Cygnus the Swan soars high into the heavens. Its flight reflects your own journey, Paul—turning visions into reality under the guidance of the stars—as if the universe itself is cheering for you and celebrating your path.
